goodbye gus the red eco-bus

back from camping in mexico.

50 miles south of ensenada, 20 miles into the forest and 4 days of living the life.

why is cooking outdoors so fun? i mean...it's messy, there's lack of water, it's inconvenient, we definitely had lack of space, bugs everywhere, you get my drift. but even with all of its negatives, it is one of my favorite things to do. and the creations that come up due to limited ingredients force you to think outside of the box. next time i go camping i'm going to set tim up with a hunk of cheese, one potato, 3 radishes, a chocolate cake and cilantro and see what he comes up with.

I love how on trips like this (random people thrown together) you meet the most interesting people. On this trip i met...an american cowboy living in mexico; his "super-wife"; the liberian raised lovely; dan the nomad and his twin, a devotee of the milk guru; an aspiring filmmaker; a backpacking german who is never without his trusty beer stein; a child of hippies who takes buses for hours on end; a traveling seattle man who plays the flute, does the rain dance and sings acapella; a chinese accountant who we almost lost on a boat; the guy from britney spears toxic video she kisses in the bathroom; a guy from my college in my same major (small world, huh?); and a substitute teacher from cypress.

so many different worlds, all on the same little red eco-bus.

i had so much fun with the rock jumping, lake skating, drum circle dancing, drumming, cooking, riding in the back of a water pick up truck, the adventure of the forest trail-ing, bonfire-ing, thinking, peeing behind a tree, and just being.

my parents warn me not to be a 방랑자.

That is loosely translated to mean a gypsy or wanderer. My dad wants me to settle down and make a plan to be an ordinary, boring grown up human being. I can already hear the handcuffs of responsibility being shackled on as each day passes. It stinks to have a deadline on living this way.

I didn't really miss anything while i was in mexico, except people i love. my "cool" parents, my tim, mike oppa, art. i think if i had my people with me, then i could really just be content.

it felt good to just be there and to be able to experience it all without the stresses of societal pressures i put on myself. it was a good escape. i just wish it wasn't so temporary.

sooo....
goodbye mexico, goodbye open land, goodbye peeing on trees
hello san francisco, hello man-made wonders, hello sanitation and toilet bowls.
